Seed Warts

Should you judge a person with seed warts? You’re most welcome to do that if you’re shallow. Otherwise it’s better if you encourage them to have an appropriate treatment. However, for your benefit, don’t touch them while you do that. Human papillomavirus (HPV) can be extremely contagious. You’re good at heart, but the virus surely won’t care for that…

The appearance of warts varies from one individual to another. They are mostly skin/flesh colored and round in shape which appears like some inflammation under the skin. HPV is usually the cause of such warts. It accumulates certain protein (called Keratin) in the skin which results in hard irregular texture of the surface. According to statistics almost 75% of individuals do suffer from some sort of wart at least once in their life time.

Seed warts are named according to their appearance. Such wart may contain one or more black dots which resemble a ‘seed’. These black spots are vessels which supply blood to the warts. After acne, these warts are the largest dermatologist concern. Although the warts can grow anywhere on the body, but they can be commonly found on your hands and fingers. Seed warts are infectious in nature and can spread to other parts of the body. Being contagious HPV can be transferred from one person to through direct contact or even from sharing objects/places like showers, clothes, utensils, etc.

There is no cure for HPV, so your primary concern should be to prevent the infection. However, if affected, this is certainly not a fatal condition and can be treated through various methods. The incidence of seed warts is dominant in children and younger adults. Their less developed immune system makes them an easier prey for HPV. Nonetheless, they can strengthen his/her immune level by taking hygienic food rich with Vitamin A, C, E and maintaining personal cleanliness.

According to different studies, seed warts may disappear without any proper treatment too. 20% of the warts disappear within a year whereas 60% disappears within two years. However, if your warts are causing you social, mental or health troubles, you can go for any of these methods recommended by a dermatologist:

Oral medication may be an appropriate option for you whereby prescription tablets and ointments would be able to remove the existing warts. Cryotherapy is another treatment method which is commonly called freezing. The doctor would attempt to control the growth and spread of a wart(s) by treating it with liquid nitrogen. For this to be effective, you are required to visit the doctor a couple of times. Through laser or electro surgery, the seed warts are burnt. It is usually prescribed when your stubborn warts do not respond to other treatments. Some patients try to cut their wart off themselves. As you’re not an expert with this (even if you consider yourself so), it’s highly advisable that you contact the doctor for such procedures. Other treatment options may include herbal medication, plaster patch with salicylic acid, etc.

Seed warts can be irksome for you mentally and physically. You should not let them stunt your social stature or confidence. This problem may be unfortunate, but there are several treatment procedures that can minimize the inconvenience. You are advised to stay vigilant in dealings with other people as they might be a potential carrier of HPV. Nonetheless, the best preventive measure is to maintain optimal hygiene level…but not a ‘compulsive’ one!
